Open to students and their parents or teachers
Join us for a hike to see the beauty of Hegewisch Marsh. Spot birds, learn about regional history, and hear about the 130-acre ecological restoration effort. The hands-on hike will focus on how the wetland provides high quality habitat for a number of wildlife, waterfowl and native plants and will give students the opportunity to reunite with nature.
Dress for the weather. Clothing and shoes will get wet and muddy.

Sponsored by Cook County Forest Preserve District, Blue Island Bicycle Club, and Friends of the Parks.
Lend a hand to help rescue the ancient oaks of Whistler Woods. In partnership with the Blue Island Bicycle Club, we will be clearing invasive brush and picking up trash along the Major Taylor Bicycle Trail, which runs through the northern portion of the woodland. Tools and gloves provided.
Directions: from Halsted, turn east on Forest View Avenue, turn left again at the sign for Whistler Woods, continue all the way to the end of the lot and park in the circle near the Major Taylor Trail trailhead.

All ages are welcome to hike Marian Byrnes’ favorite prairie. Park on the street near the alley entrance. Dress for the weather and bring a light lunch and water. Co-sponsored by Calumet Ecological Park Association, Chicago Dept. of Environment, Southeast Environmental Task Force, and Calumet Heritage Partnership .
John Pastirik will lead the hike and Bob LeSuer will tell us about its history.

Join thousands of volunteers throughout Illinois and Indiana, and all around the Great Lakes region and the world as well, in beach and shoreline cleanups to remove trash and collect data on their findings. There are two ways to get involved:
Volunteer the Day of the Event: Sign up for a designated location of your choice and come for a few hours of fun and community involvement; Be a lead volunteer: Play a lead role in the cleanup by coordinating a cleanup in your area.
