How BIG's 5th Principle of Green-Village-Building Can Help Build Community Bonds, Generate Cash Flow & Spark Pride Through Economic Development Community performance features neighbors who write, produce and perform in a celebration of their culture - past, present, and future - in theatrical form. American Girl Theatre may be the most well-known example of "heritage theater," the highest grossing theater per square foot in the country. Plain & Fancy could be the longest-running version of a culture-based show, the Joseph Stein musical now in its 22nd season at Amish Acres. Feast, the newest play by the youth of Albany Park Theater Project uses old country/new country food stories and had such demand it extended its run on opening night. But whether small engagements like Uptown's Scrap Metal Soul or village empires like Colquitt, Georgia's Annual Swamp Gravy show...community performance is a practice that can bring out the best in any neighborhood. If you're aiming for a self-sustaining community, come hear how the model which Kevin Iega Jeff, (Deeply Rooted founder and "Juliard 100") and Richard Geer (Director of Community Performance Inc.) helped make famous can help your "village" find its voice...and economic epicenter.
